LA CASA DE RAISA VANESSA | Amore Serpente

Born in 1986 in Istanbul, Raisa & Vanessa Sason had fashion in their DNA. They started designing at the age of 15 knowing it was inevitable to turn their talent into a profession. Following their graduation from high school, Raisa &Vanessa studied Theatre and Costume design at the prestigious London College of Fashion. Their background knowledge and relevance to theatre costumes can be still seen in every collection of Raisa & Vanessa. Creativity lies deep within Raisa & Vanessa’s minds. Next to revealing the imagination and tailoring in each collection the girls also push the limits in all forms of communication.

Desire Rebecca Moheb-Zandi

Desire Rebecca Moheb-Zandi ntegrates personal history and cultural identity in her large-scale, sculptural tapestries. Drawing from memories of her childhood in Turkey, where she passed hours watching her grandmother weave on a loom, Moheb-Zandi meshes traditional techniques with modern motifs and media. In addition to including rubber tubing, acrylic dowels and synthetic netting in her work, Moheb-Zandi fashions the loom as a sort of analogue computer, where the code is her pattern, and her manipulation of the pattern creates optical resonance and movement. The diversity of material and fabrication techniques that Moheb-Zandi uses function on formal and conceptual levels; her work is visually dynamic and it serves as a record of the artist’s life and journeys.

REFIK ANADOL - MELTING MEMORIES: ENGRAM AS DATA SCULPTURE

Thanks to a close collaboration with the EDP Foundation, L.E.V. Festival resumes programming at the Iglesia de la Laboral with the installation Melting Memories: Engram as data sculpture by Refik Anadol. An exciting project about the materiality of memories and their representation that represents a perfect dialogue between science, art and technology. Refik Anadol, of Turkish origin, living in Los Angeles, is a brilliant audiovisual artist who reconsiders a new aesthetic, technical and dynamic perception of space in his projects.

Kutluğ Ataman's Mesopotamian Dramaturgies

In this video we have a look at the exhibition “Kutlug Ataman: Mesopotamian Dramaturgies” at Niru Ratnam Gallery in London. The show is part of an ongoing series that reflects on the history and present of the region centered on Eastern Turkey where Ataman is now based, as well as the cultural and geopolitical forces at play there. The central work is a twenty-screen television installation called 'The Stream' (2022) which is the first major new work shown by Ataman since 'The Portrait of Sakip Sabanci' (exhibited at the Venice Biennale in 2015 and The Royal Academy, London in 2016). The exhibition runs until May 21, 2022. Using nature as metaphor, The Stream is a video installation made of televisions and found wood that is concerned with rebirth, renewal and the constant effort to construct meaning.
