DI PETSA AW24 The Body as Prayer Runway Film

The Body as Prayer presented at London Fashion Week February 2024. DI PETSA is womenswear label by Greek designer Dimitra Petsa, centred on inter-disciplinary foundations, combining slow fashion couture practices, with performance art and film. The brand has evolved from the designer’s eco-feminist research project “Wetness” that deconstructs feelings of shame surrounding the female experience and our bodily fluids – water filtered through bodies – bodily water. The signature style “The Wetlook” is an original fabric technique, draped and sewn by hand to mimic ripples of water across the body. Traditional Greek embroidery techniques are preserved and h

AMIRI AUTUMN-WINTER 2024 RUNWAY SHOW

AMIRI presents a Hollywood epic, a story of young idols becoming timeless icons. This new guard cast a contemporary refinement: easeful, free-spirited, daring. For a brand established in Los Angeles, the Hollywood lights inspire in a manner that is close to home and familiar to the heart. Presented inside a venue evoking a movie theater, the velvet curtain is the ultimate cinematic motif. Eras intertwine, as do notions of glamour and formality: the timeless allure of Old Hollywood with the undone irreverence of the 90s. At once rebellious and romantic, these rising stars deconstruct traditional American tuxedos towards loose, thrifted fits. Double-breasted shapes are elongated, shoulders softened and blazers cropped; pyjama silhouettes and robe collars relax into backstage loungewear. High-waist trousers flare out with exaggerated nonchalance – slim belts expand the proportion play, overhanging with a skate sensibility. The iconic interiors and textures of LA’s heritage movie theaters echo through the collection, their red velvet seating mirrored by subtle embellishments, and rich tones recontextualized across an expressive palette: champagne, teal, dusty blue, tan, burgundy, and, specifically, this season’s emblematic Blush, a lavish pink hue that fills the venue. All the while, luxurious fabrications are artfully transformed – washed leather, tweed, wool twill, printed suede, silk and mohair. Yohji Yamamoto POUR HOMME A/W24-25

"(...) In an industry that's all about speed, youth and the new, new thing, Yohji Yamamoto stands apart. He's old-school and that's not going to change. This is a man who was born during World War 2, when bombs were falling on Tokyo, and who still carries a darkness inside from the old days. Backstage after the show, Yamamoto talked about the old days, and how he bonded immediately with his German pal Wim Wenders because they were both children of war. "We're like brothers. We share the same memories", he said. He tapped Wenders, and other friends of the house, to walk in the show, which was about family, tradition and history. Models were old and young, tall and short, male and female. Many of them walked in pairs, and could have been old friends or family members taking a Sunday stroll (...)" ACT N°1 Fall Winter 2021-22

Youtube

The mood is attained in the concept of Earth as a force capable of absorbing civilizations. A contemporary room invaded by sand. Human memories that remain in creations, shaped like pain-tings and history reflected through antique Chinese watercolour paintings hanging on the white walls of a gallery. Paintings turn into clothing and move like a sundial, shaping dancers circling clockwise around the room. The vision translates time passing and the change of things, the evolution of humanity. The future repeats itself and the past always follows around, in a perpetual race. A girl covered in pearls, eternally asleep, is surrounded by her community, covering her with flowers. Is she lost or dead? A ballerina dancing on pointe portrays the phoenix death through the purification of fire, destroying what has been, while being born again from its own ashes. It is an eternal powerful transformation through fire, life winning death, creation overcoming destruction, past surpassed by future: every single flame in its diversity while keeping its form of fire. The new collection follows the path and stays true to the brand’s DNA, challenging traditional tailo-ring and dressmaking. Ruffled tulle, structured jacquard and liquid silk, crisp cotton and soft knitwear play on contrast. Shoulders built like blooms, draped sleeves, shirts melting inside dresses and tren-ches pleated against their will. Jackets and shirts sometimes become bodysuits. Signature landscape Chinese fine art continues to be a symbol and a mesage for the brand.
