Holiday Shirt

Welcome to paradise. This shirt was spurred by a desire to escape to a better place, as winter and all that comes with it is in full force in my home state of Minnesota. I was thinking back on the feeling of wearing bright and vibrant summer clothes on past vacations and wanted to replicate that warm feeling in my own way. This was achieved with a hand tie-dye technique, which I have not attempted since middle school. Each of the 6 panels was hand-dyed in a consistent manner to keep a similar center of focus, which was intentionally placed over anatomical landmarks. Traditionally, I would see tie-dye pieces done on solid fabrics, so I thought it would be an interesting idea to use a plaid fabric with similar blue tones. This way, each check would interact with the dye differently, creating harmony as well as contrast. This piece is finished with raw hems to allow for fraying over time.
