HOW TO BE A MERMAID

Model: Oleksandra Sukhetska Since I was little, I've been obsessed with mermaids. I dreamt of being one. But when I was old enough to read the myths -- the Odyssey, for example -- I realised that they weren't these perfect idyllic beings, but real manipulators! This video is a homage to what mermaids meant to me, before growing up. I don't think I'm the only girl who feels this way...

AntiBodies

This work engages with the ways video games represent (and misrepresent) the female body. The avatars in AntiBodies are pro-Anorexic yogis, cyber-Hysterics, and rubber-boned ragdolls. These young ladies are Frankenstein-like ready-mades concocted from a vast library of modular assets shared and created by the video game community. These assets can be transformed easily to fit within any video game, a treasure trove that makes video game developing cheaper, faster, and easier. I hack presets: characters, voices, motion capture data, and scripts. I remix the digital bones, the elastic skins, and electronic musculature. In this world, body dysmorphia is an artificial intelligence deciding how the body moves, collides, and interferes with others.

FUTURE DAY SPA

The Future Day Spa is a personalized, physiological experience delivering controlled vacuum pressure to the body replicating the feeling of being hugged. Guided by a therapist, participants hand their bodies over to a part–human, part–machine process inducing a state of relaxation. A collaboration between Qualcomm's Inventor Lab, we integrated technologies for capturing biometric data to understand the physiological benefits of a treatment.

SAFE AND WELL

Shot on 16mm film, “SAFE AND WELL” is a satirical exploration of the language of wellness set within the context of our “stay at home” confinement. The film invites the viewer to follow along on a seemingly familiar and mundane exercise journey that swiftly devolves into a more paranoid and anxious reflection of the present moment.
