Jeppe Hein, Today I feel like …

Jeppe Hein’s workshop Today I feel like ... involves children taking part in a series of simple breathing exercises, after which they will be asked to paint how they feel. By encouraging participants to pause and reflect on their emotions, Today I feel like... invites all of us––children and adults alike––to share our feelings more openly, ultimately leading to better mental health outcomes as well as a stronger sense of community.

A SHOT IN THE FOOT

"We shot an experimental fashion visualizer on 16mm & 35mm film. This project was originally conceptualized as a metaphor for my angst as a freelance artist, in all its chaos and uncertainty. I believe in powerful yet vulnerable storytelling for women, of women, and by women." The story follows an Asian girl assassin who operates only at night. She is quick and innovative, and what she does, she does best: she’s a killer. But she flies a bit too close to the sun; she grows careless, she parties too hard, and the thrill of the money eclipses the risk of danger. She gets sloppy, but the jobs keep coming, and there is no one except herself to clean up the mess she leaves behind.

The Jagged Drama of Clyfford Still’s Paintings

Sotheby’s Chairman Lisa Dennison explores the striking forms and chromatic intensity and of Clyfford Still’s PH144 (1947-Y-No.1). With its forceful combination of deep black, bright yellow and crimson red, this monumental work embodies everything that Still stood for as an artist and was notably selected by Still himself for inclusion in his seminal 1959 exhibition Paintings by Clyfford Still.

Bon - Pantheon - Flora 4k

"We wanted to create a record using samples from recordings we created ourselves that were calm, romantic and had a natural, timeless feel. Something weathered and low-fi, but Hi-Fi and complete all at the same time. Something with the spirit of a well-loved worn-out cassette but using cutting edge production techniques. Hiss, noise and distortion are all treated here as instruments in these compositions. Asking the questions "What is quality, perfection and character and what do these words mean to us". We took our own recordings and manipulated them, letting them evolve through the technology, reflecting the cyclical and evolutionary nature of all creative processes."

Cédric Kouassi Tchinan

Cédric Kouassi Tchinan is an artist based in the Ivory Coast whose paintings have been exhibited nationally. His vivid optical art-inspired works speak of the spirit and of reflection. In addition, Tchinan explores themes relating to "odyssey", which represents our life journeys. He believes that although the path is difficult, it can also be viewed as a game that we can learn valuable lessons from.

Lee Lozano with Dr Jo Applin

Jo Applin gives an insight into both Lee Lozano’s life and her work, contextualizing her practice and highlighting her response to the constraints of constitutional systems, gender dynamics, power, money, and politics. Created in 1962–1963, the early paintings and drawings on view at Hauser & Wirth Somerset use airplanes as a central image and can be considered as examples of the artist’s passionate exploration of creative energy in its purist form. This focused body of early work exposes a complex and deeply intimate inner life grappling with one-sided gender and societal dichotomies, while other works display a form of ferocious humour and playfulness, exploiting the rhetoric of exaggeration to its most cogent effect. Her raw expressionist brush strokes create powerful works imbued with a very personal iconography, including genitals, religious symbols, tools and body parts. Lozano’s short lived but influential career remains a source of fascination, lauded by Lucy Lippard as the foremost female conceptual artist of her era in New York.

To celebrate the publication of The Films of Andy Warhol Catalogue Raisonné, 1963–1965, Volume 2, this program illuminates Andy Warhol’s practice as a filmmaker, exploring the relationship between his films and his work in other media, and the importance of his films to twentieth-century art history. John G. Hanhardt, general editor of The Films of Andy Warhol Catalogue Raisonné, 1963–1965, and former Curator and Head of Film and Video at the Whitney, will be joined by film scholar Bruce Jenkins and filmmaker Tom Kalin, contributors to the catalogue raisonné, to speak about the history of Warhol’s engagement with cinema and to share insights into why Warhol's films have been influential for generations of artists while also remaining largely unknown until now.

The Emotion Industry is the pairs audio visual comment on the modern digital landscape and its influence - “There is an unfathomable power to blur reality as we know it. The ability to discern what’s real and what’s not is becoming increasingly difficult - social media super computers using data points to push your buttons for manufacturing consent, Ai articles and deep fake images add to the illusion. The ability too really ‘see’ the objective reality of what’s been created is the new enlightenment” We aim to use the most modern cutting edge techniques available to us. Sometimes embracing the errors and inconsistencies in the knowledge that when the “bugs” are ironed out and the tech made smooth these errors will be lost forever. Capturing the spaces in between advancement is an essential archive to advancement. Yesterday’s idiosyncrasies are today’s nostalgia. Recorded between London, L.A, and Canada using tape and vintage analogue equipment - Emotion industry is a narrative reflecting on sense of self, and identity in the digital realm - a visual album of dream logic scored through the lens of Afro Futurism, Asian Industrial electronica, Sound System music, Post Rave and Dub. Kehinde Wiley: A New Republic

The works presented in Kehinde Wiley: A New Republic raise questions about race, gender, and the politics of representation by portraying contemporary African American men and women using the conventions of traditional European portraiture. The exhibition includes an overview of the artist’s prolific fourteen-year career and features sixty paintings and sculptures. Wiley's signature portraits of everyday men and women riff on specific paintings by Old Masters, replacing the European aristocrats depicted in those paintings with contemporary black subjects, drawing attention to the absence of African Americans from historical and cultural narratives. The subjects in Wiley's paintings often wear sneakers, hoodies, and baseball caps, gear associated with hip-hop culture, and are set against contrasting ornate decorative backgrounds that evoke earlier eras and a range of cultures. Through the process of "street casting," Wiley invites individuals, often strangers he encounters on the street, to sit for portraits. In this collaborative process, the model chooses a reproduction of a painting from a book and reenacts the pose of the painting’s figure. By inviting the subjects to select a work of art, Wiley gives them a measure of control over the way they're portrayed. The exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum includes a selection of Wiley's World Stage paintings, begun in 2006, in which he takes his street casting process to other countries, widening the scope of his collaboration.
