Rebecca is a filmmaker, multidisciplinary artist, and community organizer based in her native NYC. She works at the intersection of moving-image, installation, and performance to deconstruct traditional narratives surrounding femininity and womxnhood through the study of personal and collective memory. Shapass’ process combines diaristic elements with found footage, critical texts, and the use of her body in performance in front of and behind the camera. Tackling greater historical and social narratives, her work aims to address the shifting place of womxn within time’s flux through the themes of sexuality, identity, and the body.
