Marine Serre

Designer Marine Serre launched her first collection, ‘15-21’, during her fourth year at La Cambre Mode in Brussels. A former intern at Maison Margiela and Dior and alumna of Balenciaga, Serre received the 2017 LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers for her namesake label. Though she initially intended on pursuing professional tennis, her interest in luxury design inspired her to integrate her athletic background into her collections. Fusing 90s sportswear with 19th-century Arab dress, her F/W17 collection, ‘Radical Call for Love’, released after the terror attacks in Paris, features a recurring crescent moon motif, that speaks to the coexistence of Arab and western cultures. Voluminous skirts and deconstructed button-downs lend a feminine touch to sportswear-inspired stretch jersey t-shirts and vests, while dresses and jumpsuits in wool and moiré are boldly juxtaposed with second-skin bodysuits. Vinyl gloves, sock boots, and hybrid pieces evoke a futuristic vision, while knit headbands and collars reiterate the athletic spirit behind the collection.
