On this episode of Gallery Spotlight, we check out Kurimanzutto in Mexico City, Mexico. Kurimanzutto is a gallery in CDMX founded by local art dealers, Mónica Manzutto and José Kuri. Here, local artist and publisher, Damián Ortega, introduces us to the rare drawings of Sergei Einstein exhibited today. Sergei Einsenstein was a Soviet film director and theorist, a pioneer in the practice of montage. He is most known for his films such as Alexander Nevsky and Ivan the Terrible. Einstein had a special connection to Mexico, where he spent ~14 months, discovering the beautiful lands. He felt his imagination sprouted once arriving and was on a mission to explore new ways of carrying out its function. He managed to synthesize a series of ideas and aesthetic experiences of Mexican culture and translated them into cinematographic language.
